Rita Simões, Portuguese portrait artist, children’s book illustrator, and character designer, is the founder of Rita Simões Studio.

The ritual of drawing in graphic diaries began in 2006, and today Rita Simões owns a collection of 148 diaries chronicling her artistic journey to the present.

With numerous portrait commissions sold, her work also embraces illustrations for children’s books published by various publishers.

Having pursued specialized training at esteemed institutions, Rita Simões developed a refined mastery in her craft. She elevated her drawing skills at the Royal Drawing School in London, graphic design at Central Saint Martins in London and Escola Artística António Arroio in Lisbon, explored fashion design at NABA in Milan, advanced character design at IDEA Academy in Rome, studied visual development and expressive character design for animation at Schoolism. Rita holds a bachelors degree in Global Design and a master’s in Audiovisual and Multimedia Communication from IADE University in Lisbon. Her master’s dissertation, “Process of Character Design for Animated Films: An Analysis of Elderly Characters,” reflects her deep dedication and passion for the field.
